Repository for 6.3, 6.9, and 7.2 MW land-based reference wind turbines developed within IEA Wind Task 55 REFWIND.
The designs have so far been primarily developed by Pietro Bortolotti at the National Laboratory of the Rockies with input from industry experts.
The design leveraged existing literature:
- Airfoils coordinates are taken from Karcher et al. 2025 (https://doi.org/10.2514/6.2025-0840)
- Airfoil polars are taken from Papi et al. 2026 (https://doi.org/10.5194/wes-11-1123-2026)
- Material properties and blade structural design are taken from Camarena et al. 2022 (https://doi.org/10.5194/wes-7-19-2022)
These designs are meant to be preliminary and are subjected to design improvements.
The current OpenFAST files are compatible with OpenFAST v5.0.0 and ROSCO v2.10.4.
