Walkthrough
This pull request updates chart layout, CLI automation, engine commands, PPTX handling, rendering, slideshow behavior, and UI controls. It also revises project documentation and repository configuration.
Changes: Chart and format handling
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Chart layout and rendering crates/model/src/chart.rs, crates/pptx/src/read/chart.rs, crates/render/src/chart.rs, crates/pptx/src/write/chart.rs
Charts now store validated manual plot-area layouts with inner or outer targets. PPTX import and export handle these layouts, and rendering applies them while retaining automatic layout when no valid manual layout is available. Histogram bin assignment, bar labels, axis labels, and gridline handling also change.
PPTX timing and geometry crates/pptx/src/read/timing.rs, crates/pptx/src/write/timing.rs, crates/pptx/src/read/shapes.rs, crates/pptx/src/opc.rs, crates/model/src/anim.rs
PPTX import and export handle media timing settings, behavior-level animation auto-reverse, corrected emphasis effects, inherited picture-placeholder geometry, and normalized package paths.
Rendering and PDF output crates/render/src/geometry.rs, crates/render/src/renderer.rs, crates/pdf/src/lib.rs, crates/metafile/src/emfplus.rs
Rendering rejects non-finite or excessively large geometry. PDF export copies backdrop RGB values into fully transparent content pixels. EMF+ region parsing applies cumulative work and depth limits.
CLI and MCP
Layer / File(s)
Summary
CLI command files and output handling apps/deckcraft-cli/src/main.rs, apps/deckcraft-cli/src/help.rs, apps/deckcraft-cli/tests/it/*
The CLI accepts ordered --cmd and --cmd-file options. Command files accept bounded UTF-8 lines and report file and line errors. Broken stdout pipes no longer stop requested work.
Multiple automation roots and bounded MCP frames apps/deckcraft-cli/src/automation_args.rs, crates/engine/src/file_access.rs, crates/mcp/src/server.rs
Automation access accepts multiple read and write roots. MCP stdio requests are limited to 16 MiB; oversized frames and invalid UTF-8 receive errors.
Editing and text behavior
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Engine commands and shape editing crates/engine/src/cmd/*, crates/engine/src/lib.rs, crates/engine/src/compare.rs
Slide movement supports multiple IDs. Commands add validation and behavior for master date insertion, background fills, shadow size, table alignment, review comparisons, and automatic shape names. Session edits also refit eligible groups.
Text, fonts, and clipboard handling crates/text/src/*, crates/engine/src/spell.rs, crates/engine/src/cmd/richclip.rs, crates/fonts/src/*
Text handling updates automatic numbering, date formatting, symbol-font selection, spelling suggestions, and clipboard HTML parsing and size limits. Font enumeration now has collection and named-instance caps.
UI and slideshow
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Show settings, transitions, and presenter previews crates/anim/src/show.rs, crates/ui-egui/src/show*, crates/ui-egui/src/state.rs, crates/ui-egui/src/dialogs/body.rs
Show state tracks backward navigation and cursor visibility. Back navigation reverses the departed slide’s transition, except for Morph. Presenter previews use tracked background rendering on non-WASM targets, with synchronous fallback paths.
Dragging selected slides moves them as one run. Dragging an unselected slide moves only that slide. The sorter and thumbnail pane share drag state and dispatch one move operation.
Format pane, ribbon, and shortcuts crates/ui-egui/src/panels/*, crates/ui-egui/src/ribbon/*, crates/ui-egui/src/menus.rs
The Format pane adds effect presets, size and position controls, and background-fill selection. Picture Styles and the Add Animation menu adapt to available space. The Quick Access Toolbar supports Alt+1 through Alt+9 outside Mac-key mode.
Project records and other updates

Summary
Documentation and configuration ROADMAP.md, docs/*, AGENTS.md, CLAUDE.md, .github/workflows/windows-arm64.yml, Cargo.toml, contributors/people.toml
Project records update progress and parity notes. CI guidance and the Windows ARM64 shared-workflow reference change. The workspace updates the craft-update revision.
Harrison-Booth/deckcraft#30: Updates chart title layout and plot start position in the renderer, which intersects with manual plot-area geometry.
Harrison-Booth/deckcraft#9: Changes the chart rendering interface used by the manual-layout rendering changes.
Suggested reviewers:dylanmtaylor, echelon
Merge Risk: Low · previous review ebb55
The chart-layout serialization is compatible with import and rendering, but spelling suggestions, CI-policy compliance, and parity-document bookkeeping still require follow-up.
Security architecture risk: Low · up to ebb55
Chart layouts are validated, and additional automation folders require explicit grants without combining read and write permissions. The main security tradeoff is replacing a fixed CI workflow revision with a moving branch. That workflow has read-only repository permissions and forwards no explicit secrets, limiting the demonstrated exposure.
Retained concerns
Low · security · observed: Windows ARM64 CI loses its immutable upstream workflow binding. Future changes to the upstream main branch can alter executable build and installation checks without a corresponding local revision change. This is intentional centralized update behavior, but it transfers ongoing execution control to that branch. The demonstrated scope is limited by read-only repository permissions and the absence of explicit secret forwarding.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
observed — MCP authority expands to additional folders only when the operator supplies additional roots of the corresponding access type. The changed CI caller grants contents: read, forwards no explicit secrets, and runs on selected pull requests, release pushes, a schedule or manual dispatch. The inspected caller does not establish release publication authority.
Security Findings and Attack Paths
inferred — An actor able to modify the shared workflow's main branch could influence subsequent Windows ARM64 CI execution without changing this repository. Removing the fixed revision introduces that update path. No upstream compromise, secret exposure or malicious execution was established; the caller's read-only permissions limit demonstrated authority.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — File authorization retains canonical, component-based containment and independent read/write grants. Local command-file execution remains an operator interface outside MCP confinement, rather than gaining authority from MCP-supplied paths.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
observed — Command-file execution is sequential, not transactional: earlier commands may already have executed when a later line fails, and remaining commands and final save/export steps are skipped. This follows the existing --cmd execution model rather than introducing a new atomicity guarantee.
observed — The documented filesystem check-then-open race remains: another local process can swap links between authorization and access. The inspected comparison does not show this PR introducing that limitation or removing an existing race control.

- Around line 132-136: Update the ManualLayout construction to read and
interpret the layout mode values before calling is_valid(); convert edge-mode
coordinates and dimensions to the rectangle representation, including treating
c:w as the right edge rather than the width, and reject the manual layout when a
mode is unsupported.
Review comments at @crates/render/src/chart.rs:
- Around line 322-323: Update axis-title positioning in the chart rendering flow
so draw_axis_titles uses manual_plot when an inner manual layout provides one,
aligning the bottom title to the plot center and the left title to the plot
edge. Retain automatic area-based positioning when no manual plot is present.

…nd layout checks (storytold#1704)
- presentation.json gets its own 256 MiB inflation limit instead of the 2 GiB
per-entry allowance, and is parsed in place: only a file that needs its
null-number repair is copied.
- A media member that fails decoding or its CRC is charged for the bytes it
inflated, so later members cannot reuse the shared media budget.
- repair() and Presentation::validate() check slide layouts against a set
built once instead of scanning every layout per slide.
