Problem

There are currently two Nextcloud Office apps in the App Store:

Screenshot Screenshot 2026-07-23 at 18 32 16

The first one doesn’t immediately make it clear what it is.

That’s especially true if someone is trying to set up Euro-Office but has never heard of Collabora. For me it’s obvious that the first one must be Euro-Office, but for someone never ever heard of Collabora, it could be misleading/confusing.

Proposal

Mention Euro-Office in the app summary.

@chrip @juliusknorr Sorry if this ping is unnecessary. I can't assign a pull request reviewer, so I thought the pull request might have been forgotten (After all, you have presumably other, more important work to do 🙂). I recently saw someone on the Fediverse (Mastodon) who was wondering about the difference between "Nextcloud Office" and "Nextcloud Office (Euro-Office)", which is why this pull request came back to mind.

Thanks for the ping, @mritzmann. Not unnecessary at all, and thanks for opening this
as a PR rather than just an issue.

To be clear up front: the current name is a deliberate decision, not an oversight.

"Nextcloud Office" is the product name, and the engine is only ever named in a
"powered by" line — never inside the name itself. That's implemented consistently:

  • Server selector (apps/appstore/src/service/OfficeSuites.ts,
    nextcloud/server#59933):
"Nextcloud Office", with "Powered by Euro-Office" as a feature line.
  • All-in-One (php/templates/includes/optional-containers.twig,
    nextcloud/all-in-one#8052):
both cards titled "Nextcloud Office", split by an office-powered-by subline.
  • Admin manual
    (nextcloud/documentation#15110):
    "Nextcloud Office (powered by Euro-Office)".
  • richdocuments
    (nextcloud/richdocuments#5692)
was renamed to "Nextcloud Office (Collabora)" for the very reason you raise. The
parenthetical marks the alternative; the default keeps the plain name.

So adding "(Euro-Office)" would make the two entries symmetrical again and undo that
distinction.

Your underlying problem stands, though: in the App Store list the two names give a
newcomer nothing to choose between, and our summary is the uninformative
Nextcloud Office app. That's the thing worth fixing:

<name>Nextcloud Office</name>
<summary>Nextcloud Office, powered by Euro-Office</summary>

That disambiguates at exactly the point of confusion, uses the same "powered by"
wording as the server selector, AIO and the docs, and leaves the product name
alone. If you're up for it, feel free to repurpose this PR to change the summary
instead and I'll get it reviewed — otherwise I'm happy to take it from here and
close this one out.

I saw that our own docs at
admin_manual/office/euro-office/index.rst still tells admins to use "the
Euro-Office connector app", a name that no longer exists in the App Store.
I'll fix that separately; it's arguably the bigger source of the confusion.

Thanks @chrip, Personally, I would prefer it if both titles directly explained what they were about. But I understand your reasoning, and the decision is yours to make anyway (and/or Nextcloud), not mine. I made the change and updated the merge request description. Let me know if I need to make further adjustments.
