Voicely Role

Help your Discord server feel active.

Voicely Role automatically pings a role whenever enough people have gathered in a voice channel, encouraging others to jump in and join the conversation. It's perfect for gaming communities, social servers, study groups, and any community that wants to turn "a few people are hanging out" into "everyone's joining."

For example, when two people join your gaming voice channel, the bot can notify everyone with the @Gaming role that a group is forming.

You could prompt people to select the role in onboarding or your server roles channel for the best visibility.

If you want something similar but that pings in private dm's, try Voicely Ping instead.

Features

  • 🎙️ Watch one or many voice channels.
  • 🔔 Ping any role when a configurable number of people join.
  • 🌎 Optionally notify @everyone instead of a role.
  • 💭 Optionally send the notification in the voice channel's side chat instead of a text channel.
  • ✏️ Automatically update the notification with the current number of people as they join and leave.
  • 💤 Automatically edit the notification again once everyone has left the voice channel.
  • 📈 Encourage community activity by letting members know when conversations are already happening.
  • 🎯 Create multiple notifications for the same voice channel with different thresholds.
  • 💬 Customize both the active notification message and the "everyone left" message.
  • 🚫 Exclude alt accounts or specific users from counts.
  • 🔒 Assign admin roles to manage the bot.

Example notifications:

  • 2 people → @Casual Players
  • 4 people → @Gaming
  • 8 people → @Large Group

Each notification is tracked independently and won't trigger again until the counted users have completely left the voice channel.

Getting Started

  1. Invite Voicely Role to your server.
  2. Run /add.
  3. Choose:
    • The voice channel(s) to watch.
    • The role to ping.
    • The text channel where notifications should be sent.
    • The number of people required before sending the notification.
    • (Optional) A custom notification message.
    • (Optional) A custom message to display once everyone has left.
  4. That's it! The bot will automatically watch the voice channels, update the notification as people join and leave, and notify your community whenever enough people have gathered.

Commands

Command Description
/add Create a new notification.
/remove Remove a notification.
/list View all configured notifications.
/edit-message Change a notification's messages.
/exclude-user Exclude a user from all counts.
/include-user Include an excluded user again.
/excluded-users View all excluded users.
/admin-roles Choose which roles can manage Voicely Role.

Discord Administrators always have access to these commands.

Custom Messages

Each notification has two customizable messages:

  • Active notification (shown while people are in the voice channel)
  • Everyone left (shown after the counted users have all left)

Available placeholders:

  • {role} — Mentioned role or @everyone
  • {channel} — Voice channel mention
  • {channel_name} — Voice channel name
  • {count} — Current counted users
  • {threshold} — Configured threshold

Default active message:

{role} There are now **{count} people** in {channel}!

Default "everyone left" message:

Everyone has left {channel}.

Example custom message:

{role} A game is starting in {channel}! Join now while everyone's gathering!

The role is only mentioned when the notification is first sent. Updating the message as people join or leave will not ping the role again.

Excluded Users

Excluded users are ignored when counting people in voice channels. Bots are automatically excluded.

This is useful for:

  • Alt accounts
  • AFK accounts
  • Moderators who shouldn't affect thresholds

If only excluded users remain in a voice channel, the notification automatically resets so it can trigger again when counted users join.

Support

If you have any problems with the bot or want to request a feature, please create an issue, and I will try to get to it as soon as I can!
