Getting Started

Connecting to chat

When you launch Ghost Chat you land on the home screen, which shows a card for each platform: Twitch, YouTube, and Kick.

  1. Type a channel into the platform you want to follow:
    • Twitch — the channel name (e.g. shroud).
    • YouTube — an @handle, a channel ID, or a full video URL of a live stream.
    • Kick — the channel name.
  2. Click Connect. The status dot turns green when the connection is live.
  3. Repeat for any other platforms — you can have all three connected at once, and their messages merge into one stream.
  4. Click Open Chat to switch to the overlay view.

No login, OAuth token, or API key is required. Ghost Chat connects anonymously.

You can set a default channel for each platform in Settings so it is pre-filled on launch.

Moving and resizing the window

  • Move — click and drag the title bar at the top of the window.
  • Resize — click and drag any edge or corner.
  • Ghost Chat remembers the window position and size, and reopens in the same place next time.
  • The tray menu has a Center on Screen option if the window ends up off-screen.

Vanish mode (transparency + click-through)

Vanish mode makes the overlay transparent and click-through, so your mouse passes straight through to the game or app behind it. Toggle it in any of these ways:

  • Click the vanish toggle in the chat view.
  • Press your vanish hotkey (set one in General settings).
  • Choose Toggle Vanish from the system tray menu.

Toggle it again the same way to return to the normal, interactive window.

Using it with OBS

Add a Window Capture source in OBS and point it at the Ghost Chat window. The transparent background is captured automatically, so chat messages appear directly over your stream content.

System tray

Ghost Chat runs quietly in the system tray. Right-click (or click) the tray icon for:

  • Center on Screen — recenter the window on your display.
  • Toggle Vanish — toggle vanish mode.
  • Open Config Folder — open the folder containing config.json.
  • Quit — close Ghost Chat.
