Install a specific version — append a version specifier. Use == to pin an
exact release, or >= to set a minimum floor (installs the newest release at
or above it):

pinned, the pinned form is shown right below the default one. Two pinning styles
are supported everywhere DAILYBOT_VERSION / --version is accepted:

>=1.15.0installs the newest release at or above1.15.0, so you get any later version automatically while guaranteeing a lower bound.

The CLI exposes two ways to inspect what's installed — a quick one-liner for scripts and a richer panel for humans:

If a newer release is available, the output lists the upgrade command for each install method (Homebrew, Linux binary, pipx, pip), so you don't need to remember which channel you used to install in the first place.
To upgrade, just run:
dailybot upgradeThe CLI auto-detects how it was installed and either runs the right upgrade command for you (pipx / uv tool / pip) or prints the exact command you should run yourself (Homebrew, Linux binary, editable dev install). Use dailybot upgrade --dry-run to preview without executing.
To uninstall:

Your credentials and agent profiles in ~/.config/dailybot/ are kept by default so reinstalling later doesn't force you to redo dailybot login or dailybot agent configure — pass --purge to wipe them too.
Bug reports? Always include the full output of
dailybot version— the install path and Python runtime are usually enough to tell us whether the issue is in the CLI itself, in a transitive dep, or in the host environment.

The form's state_change_permission audience is the sole gate for dailybot form transition — there is no response-author short-circuit. If you're not in the audience, the API returns 403 with code: form_response_change_state_forbidden.
Guided mode (form submit without --content) fetches the form's question list from the API and prompts each question one by one, with type-aware inputs:

Beyond filling them in, you can create and configure forms and check-ins from
the CLI — create with questions, manage questions, set schedules and report
channels, and archive. Authoring is role-gated on the server (admins /
managers / form owners, as applicable); the CLI acts within your role and never
elevates — an out-of-role action returns a clear 403. Both a login session and
an API key work.

The existing form delete / form update and checkin edit / checkin reset
operate on responses. To avoid ambiguity, authoring the definitions uses
distinct verbs: form archive, checkin config, and
checkin archive.

Team kudos pass through the backend's team manager, which expands the team into its active members and excludes the caller — so giving kudos to a team you belong to is valid (you credit your teammates, not yourself).

team list is role-scoped server-side: org admins see all teams in the organization; members see only the teams they belong to. The CLI never client-filters — it shows the server response verbatim. If dailybot kudos give --team "X" errors with a "not visible to you" message, the team either doesn't exist or you're not a member.
All user-scoped commands (checkin, form, kudos, user, team) use structured exit codes for scripting:

--json output for any 4xx surfaces both detail (server-provided text) and the structured code field — chat-agent consumers can pattern-match on the code (form_response_change_state_forbidden, final_state_locked, form_response_not_found, no_valid_team, etc.) without parsing prose.
Any software agent — AI coding assistants, CI jobs, deploy scripts, bots — can report activity through the CLI. This lets teams get visibility into what automated processes are doing, alongside human updates. Dailybot interconnects agents and humans with work analysis, progress reports, observability, and automations.

If you only do one thing on a fresh install, run:

Commit a tiny config file at the root of your repo so every contributor — and every AI agent running in the repo — signs reports under the same identity, with no per-developer setup. The CLI walks up from $PWD looking for .dailybot/profile.json; the closest ancestor wins.
The fastest way to create or update it is via the CLI:

Security: a key field in the repo file is rejected with a hard error. Credentials must never be committed — auth always resolves from your global profile, DAILYBOT_API_KEY, or dailybot login. Unknown future keys log a warning and are ignored.
Since .dailybot/profile.json may contain local-only customizations (personal vars, machine-specific overrides), a good pattern is to gitignore .dailybot/ and commit a .dailybot_example/ folder as the template. New contributors copy it once to get started:

(never a free-form name). To message "Sergio Florez", resolve the name first —
dailybot user list gives each member's UUID — then pass it to -u. The
interactive mode (dailybot with no args) does this for you: it lists people
to pick from. Channels are always given by id.
Threads & editing: --thread-message (repeatable, max 10) posts replies
inside the parent's thread in a single call. Each reply gets its own
bot_message_id in the response, so chat update <id> edits the parent or any
reply in place. Threads render natively where the platform supports it (Slack
channels + DMs; Teams/Discord/Google Chat thread in channels, deliver flat in
DMs).
Auth & scope: with a login session the message is sent as you, limited
to what your role can reach in your org (teammates, public channels, teams you
belong to); an org API key (dailybot config key=...) is org-wide. A target
outside your role's reach returns a clear error, as does the per-token CLI rate
limit.
