failing to build juceaid #25

Description

@dhoinjo

Hello everyone. I'm not a programmer. I followed all steps in the guide. But I just won't succeed at the cmake .. part. When I enter that command, I get a long red list.

at the beginning I get

CMake Error at thirdparty/juce/extras/Build/juceaide/CMakeLists.txt:141 (message):
  Failed to build juceaide

then I get a lot of warnings and at the end it says:

15 warnings and 1 error generated.

  gmake[2]: ***
  [extras/Build/juceaide/CMakeFiles/juceaide.dir/build.make:107:
  extras/Build/juceaide/CMakeFiles/juceaide.dir/__/__/__/modules/juce_gui_basics/juce_gui_basics.mm.o]
  Error 1

  gmake[1]: *** [CMakeFiles/Makefile2:183:
  extras/Build/juceaide/CMakeFiles/juceaide.dir/all] Error 2

  gmake: *** [Makefile:136: all] Error 2

I've been at it for a couple of hours now. No success. Is there a tutorial somewhere that takes me through all the steps one by one? Or is there something I can do to check what is wrong?

Hi @dhoinjo, thank you for reaching out here. I think I know what's going on here. Are you on macOS 15.5 or later? If so, you might be hitting the same issue I hit here:

    #24

Let me know what operating system and version you've got, and I'll walk you through the next steps.

Hi @dhoinjo, apologies for the slow response here and thank you for confirming your OS... Okay, cool, I think that updating the JUCE version in use should help you.

Here's what you should do --

Open a terminal in your repo root directory (the top-level directory that includes folders like src, thirdparty, etc.

    1. cd thirdparty/juce -- this should bring you to the juce directory, which should have a specific commit of the JUCE repo checked out
    2. git fetch
    3. git checkout master -- this should update the local state of the JUCE repo so that you are now pointed at the latest version of their master branch. this should be a version of JUCE 8.

Now, you can enter cd ../.. to get back to your repo's root directory. Try building again now, and see if you have more success!

The core issue here is one we are aware of and are working on -- these is some incompatibility with the earlier version of JUCE we are using here as a submodule and macOS 15.5.

thanks for this! I started over with your method. For some reason, I managed to build it with the old juce version in the repo. But I was fighting mith my computer the last three days becaus of code imcompatibility between Juce 8, which I have, and the deprecated terminology of the auto generated code.
I tried building again from scratch and it failed every time at the juceaid stage. When I used your method, it worked. (there was one odd hickup, as RNBO for some reason didn't generate the rnbo_source.cpp file anymore, but luckily I had that from the previous build). Xcode build didn't work at first. Had to be creative and make juceaid in Cmake and the rest of the build with Xcode. So now I can finally start in Xcode again for the GUI. Creating the GUI is no problem, but I had a lot of issues with linking the paramaters te the GUI elements last time. I'l keep you posted. Anyway. Thanks a lot for the fix!!

Hi @dhoinjo , thank you for following up! I'm glad that things are building again with this method. Yes, certainly let us know how things go -- I'll close this ticket for now but feel free to reach out if you hit more issues.
