Export deterministic benchmark inputs for catalog-algorithms #24

Open

Description

@matbrgz

This repo moved from OpenSoftwareAlliance/names-commons-dataset to BenchCommons/dataset-names. It starts the dataset-* category: inputs for the org's benchmarks.

Real-world names are a natural input for classic algorithms in catalog-algorithms: sorting, searching, hashing, string matching and deduplication. This repo owns the input export contract.

  • Spec: a deterministic export by size (e.g. 1k, 100k, 1M names), with format, encoding (UTF-8, multiple scripts), seed and checksum, so every language reads identical input.
  • Versioned, licensed releases that catalogs can pin by version and checksum.
  • Update README and links after the move and rename.

Tracking: BenchCommons/catalog-algorithms#11

    Update: the new BenchCommons/dataset-tool owns the input contract: deterministic export, checksums and releases (BenchCommons/tools-dataset#1). This issue now covers making dataset-names follow that contract, plus the README and links update after the move.
