💡 What: Replaced a SELECT COUNT(*) query with a LIMIT 1 scalar ID fetch to check if the user table is empty, and optimized an email existence check to fetch only the user ID instead of hydrating the full ORM object.
🎯 Why: SELECT COUNT(*) performs a full index scan which becomes slower as the table grows, and hydrating full ORM objects for simple existence checks wastes memory and parsing time.
📊 Impact: Changes the empty-table check from $O(N)$ to $O(1)$, and reduces memory allocations during user registration.
🔬 Measurement: Verify changes in src/h4ckath0n/auth/service.py and run the full test suite (uv run pytest) to ensure logical equivalence and that tests pass.
