Raw Mapspam Data Description

This project contains multiple zipped datasets, each containing several CSV files. These files represent different agricultural data for the year 2020, focusing on crops and crop groups across Sub-Saharan Africa. The datasets are categorized by various agricultural technologies and their related metrics.

Each zip file contains pixelized values for agricultural metrics like physical area, harvested area, production, value of production, and yield. These are provided for 42 crops and crop groups. The files are organized into distinct technologies and categories.

File Naming Convention

Each file corresponds to a specific technology and a crop metric. The naming convention follows the pattern:

  • xxx_TA.csv: All technologies combined
  • xxx_TH.csv: Rainfed high inputs
  • xxx_TI.csv: Irrigated
  • xxx_TL.csv: Rainfed low inputs
  • xxx_TR.csv: All rainfed (H + L + S)
  • xxx_TS.csv: Rainfed subsistence

For example, PhysArea_TA.csv represents the physical area for all technologies combined, while PhysArea_TI.csv represents the physical area for the irrigated technology.

Technologies Overview

The technologies are defined as follows:

  • A: All technologies
  • I: Irrigated
  • H: Rainfed high inputs
  • L: Rainfed low inputs
  • S: Rainfed subsistence
  • R: All rainfed (H + L + S)

These technologies describe the various agricultural practices used to derive the corresponding metrics for crops.
