BlankScreen draws an opaque black layer over Windows. It does not power off the monitor, stop the video signal, pause applications, or change your display settings. Pure black avoids leaving a bright static interface on an OLED display; an LCD backlight remains active.
The downloadable .exe needs no setup. The instructions below are only for running or building the source code.
Use Python 3.10 or newer for Windows with Tk support. Tk is included with the standard installer from python.org.
Open PowerShell in the repository folder and run:
python .\BlankScreen.pywEvery display will turn black immediately. Click anywhere or press any key to close BlankScreen.
Install PyInstaller, then create the executable:
python -m pip install pyinstaller
pyinstaller --clean --onefile --windowed --name BlankScreen .\BlankScreen.pywThe finished file will be available at dist\BlankScreen.exe.
