How to install

Since I'm not familiar with Rust, how would a newbie go about installing Zedless?

Ps: thanks for the great project! I use VsCodium and this seems a great alternative

This worked for me:

• curl --proto '=https' --tlsv1.2 -sSf https://sh.rustup.rs | sh
• Clone https://github.com/zedless-editor/zedless
• Run environment preparation script/linux and re-source .profile or re-open shell
• Run the test suite cargo test --workspace --jobs 12
• Build ( and run ) with cargo run --jobs 12
• Build a release with cargo build --release --jobs 12

By the way cargo / rust tends to melt-down systems taking all CPU, causing other programs to core dump. To work around that I used half my cores ( 12 of 24 ) so --jobs 12 ... pick the best number to limit concurrency on your system.

There is an "install" step possible, but I have not done that because the actual executable is still named zed it seems, and it still seems to use all the zed configuration files, and what not. So I run it from the CLI with this last step right now:

./target/release/zed

I was looking for a PPA for Debian 13

Just run the correct bundle script for your system in the scripts folder. You'll probably need to install a few dependencies though.
