Feature announcement:
https://make.wordpress.org/core/2026/03/04/customisable-navigation-overlays-in-wordpress-7-0/
Describe the bug
When I try to use the new customizable overlays on a site with pretty much default Frost (no CSS or style.json changes) I'm getting wonky results with the new overlays.
Specifically, the overlay always ends up with a huge padding as seen in this screenshot:
Is this expected behavior? Is there something that can be updated in Frost to fix this?
I'm still learning about the new system, but wanted to document this problem. In Twenty Twenty-Five there's no side or top padding, though there are other problems that make it not work perfectly like the default overlay.
Interested to hear the perspective of anyone else watching this, and would love to be able to use this new feature with Frost!
To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:
Follow the instructions from the article above to add a custom overlay.
Expected behavior
The overlay should be "full screen" and cover everything below.
Instead there's a border around it and the content below is visible.
Screenshots
If applicable, add screenshots to help explain your problem.
Debugging information (please complete the following information):
- WordPress 7.0. No Gutenberg plugin. Latest Frost downloaded a couple days ago
- Device: MacBook
- OS: MacOS
- Browser Chrome 148
Additional context
Running WP on a local Valet server. Frost theme with few plugins (ACF, MFB)
