Fatal error when installed "Set User Password" plugin

I installed Set User Password plugin individually as instructed here.

It will not activate because the plugin causes a fatal error. I only activates with the full UM Extended plugin -- it appears the instructions are incorrect on both the UM documentation and this repo.

Hi @lindsayweb - Did you install both Extended and individual "Set User Password" plugin? This will cause a fatal error. Please try deactivating the Extended and leave "Set User Password" active.

Once I did installed both, it worked. (The instructions on the main UM documentation are incorrect.) I activated the set password extension only.But the password placeholders do not work. Did only installing the only the set password or enabling the entire plugin fix this? I am trying to get the set password to work in the welcome email and it is not functioning properly with the extended plugin and having the set password only active. Is there a method to fix this?
