Any way to disable tabs on tablets?

I just realized that on phones, Cromite doesn't show tabs. But on tablets, it always seems to. Couldn't find a way to disable them but maybe I missed something?
(At least Galaxy tablets have pretty narrow screens, so tabs are annoying on them. I'm using a Tab S9.)

try this one. if I toggle it, it disables/enables tabs for me
settings->accessibility and ui->force tablet mode toggle
