stuck video quality in linux version and in windows version can't load the plugins

i downloaded multiple versions and i found these consistent problems :

• i am using ubuntu 24.04 vm and downloaded multiple version, i noticed that no matter what udemy course i download, it keeps giving 720p resolution even if i changed the video quality 1080p / Best quality or any other video quality, i know for a fact there is a 1080p as i tried on my own using another way. So i dont know whether this is a bug in the app or what.
• another thing is that, i tried to download the windows version, while the app installed successfully and all the packages got installed, for some reason, it cant load the plugins, i tried reinstalling multiple times, but it didnt fix it.

@MyzoTrak Thank you — two separate problems here, and you've hit something real with the first one.

1. Udemy stuck at 720p — confirmed, it's a bug, and it's not Linux-specific.

I traced it in the code rather than guessing. Udemy only serves direct MP4 files up to 720p; 1080p and above exist only in the HLS stream. The download path currently does two things wrong:

• When a lecture has any direct MP4 sources, the courses plugin always picks from those and never looks at the HLS stream — so with "1080p" selected it logs requested 1080p, using closest available 720p and takes the 720p MP4.
• Even on the code path that does use HLS, the shared HLS downloader is called without a quality target, and its variant selection hard-caps at 720p (max_height.unwrap_or(720) in hls_downloader.rs).

So no Udemy download can currently exceed 720p, on any OS, regardless of the quality setting. Your "I know for a fact there is a 1080p" is exactly right — the 1080p variant is in the HLS master playlist the plugin never reads. The fix is to prefer HLS when the requested quality is above the best direct MP4, and to actually thread your quality setting through to the HLS variant selection (the plumbing for that already exists but is unused). It needs a courses plugin update; you'll get it from the Marketplace without reinstalling the app. I'll post here when it's out.

2. Windows: plugins fail with LoadLibraryExW failed.

This one I could not reproduce, and the honest answer is that the current error message is useless — it's Windows refusing to load the DLL at the OS level, but our UI drops the actual Windows error code, so I can't tell why from your screenshot. (That's a bug in itself and I'll make the error include the code.) It is not a plugin/app version mismatch — that failure prints a different message, and your plugin versions (courses 1.0.5, telegram 1.0.2, convert 1.0.3) are all current.

All three plugins failing identically points at something on that machine rather than one bad download. Could you run this in PowerShell and paste the output? It asks Windows to load the DLL directly and reports the real error code:

• 126 = a DLL the plugin depends on is missing — then check that C:\Windows\System32\vcruntime140_1.dll exists, or install the VC++ x64 redistributable
• 5 or 225 = your antivirus is blocking it — check Windows Security → Protection history for anything about omniget_plugin_*.dll
• 193 = the file is corrupted/truncated — remove and reinstall the plugin from the Marketplace

Also useful: which Windows version/edition (winver), and whether that Windows is also a VM. Answer with just the error code and I can probably tell you exactly what's wrong.

Half of this just shipped: v0.8.4 includes the plugin-loader fix, so on Windows the error will now show the actual OS reason (e.g. error 126: The specified module could not be found) instead of the bare LoadLibraryExW failed. If you update and open the Marketplace, the message itself should now tell us what's wrong — feel free to paste it here instead of running the PowerShell probe. The Udemy 720p fix is plugin-side and still pending; I'll post here when the courses plugin update is out.

thank you for reaching out, after further examination here is what i found:

• the windows version showed to me error code 126 in the terminal, so it did in the application, downloading the VC++ x64 redistributable fixed the issue, apparently the plugin/library that windows needed to read and load DLL files was missing. I don't know whether it is tied to this windows version, or it is general, nevertheless VC++ x64 redistributable completely fixed it.
