How to have Git inside the Ignition Image

Hi, I am planning to have your ignition docker images for dev, test, staging and production environments. My thought is at least we need to have pre configured(installed) git into these Ignition docker images. How to use these images along with git for effective deployment architectures.

@HARIGB, Thank you for reaching out! Sorry I haven't gotten back to you yet on this, busy times.. The way I would recommend using it is to have your named volume against /var/lib/ignition/data for the gateway state, and then a bind-mount for your projects directory (on your host) to /var/lib/ignition/data/projects. This then allows you to use git at your host system level (where you're using the designer and your other dev tools).

If you need to configure the auto-commit setup, then you'd need to consider adding git to the image. Interested in some other discussion on this topic from folks too. Really I was inspired by your session and Ryans session. Motivated to explore this technology. Yes as you mentioned auto commit would be much more helpful. It would be grateful if you could help us in this regards.

Also when I was learning Docker, Found other deployment technologies like kubernetes (and Docker Swarm from your session) for managing docker containers and deployments. Is it mandatory to use Git for deployment?, Why can't we use git as just a version control tool (even I think using git can be optional). Will there be any challenges in using Kubernetes for deployments and managing Ignition and DB Containers.
