Hi Sugar Labs community! 👋
My name is Joshua Kato, a JavaScript developer from Uganda applying for GSoC 2026 with Sugar Labs.
About me:
I have solid experience with JavaScript, HTML, CSS and PHP/Laravel. I'm comfortable building interactive web applications and working with APIs. I'm new to Sugar Labs but very motivated to contribute.
Why Sugar Labs:
The mission of building educational tools for children in developing countries resonates deeply with me as someone from Uganda. I've seen firsthand how limited access to quality educational tools affects children's learning. Contributing to Sugar Labs feels meaningful beyond just code.
Project I'm interested in:
Sugarizer Human Activity Pack — developing 2 new interactive educational activities for children using JavaScript/Vue.js
What I've done so far:
Read through the Ideas-2026.md page carefully
Started going through the Sugarizer Vanilla JavaScript tutorial
Will publish a video of the activity running shortly
My questions for mentors:
Is the Sugarizer Human Activity Pack still available for GSoC 2026 applicants?
What do you look for most in a strong proposal for this project?
Are there any specific issues I should work on to demonstrate my skills?
I'm committed to completing the tutorial and making a contribution before the March 31 deadline.
Thank you for this opportunity. I am looking forward to being part of the Sugar Labs community!
