What setting should I use in Plex?

G'day all,

With this program running, what should my settings for thumbnail generation be in Plex?
I've tried never, but then I get no thumbnails, as a scheduled task but I don't get thumbnails for awhile after media is imported, and if Plex is set to when media is added it starts creating thumbnails with the CPU.

Hi, this depends how you want it setup.

What I do in my setup is i have Sonarr/Radarr webhooks setup so any new item added is sent to this app to generate the previews.

Then once a day i do a full library scan via the cron schedule in this app.

This means i have the "generate video previews thumbnails" disabled in the plex settings.

Have you tried the above setup?

I've set my settings as per yours above, after running a full library scan the thumbnails for a recently added media file started working, even though the thumbnails show as already being generated via a webhook.
Could my issue be that thumbnails are generated on media import but then deleted once Tdarr has processed/replaced the original file awhile later?

@ChrisK0007 i am not sure I understand what you are asking.

Is this your workflow..

• File already exists. Fill lib scan generated the previews.
• Sonarr/Radarr upgrades the file.. > sends webhook to this app, it regenerates the previews.
• However. Tdarr modified the upgraded files.. due to this plex sees this as a new upgrade.. removes the thumbnails..
• Now there are no thumbnails...

Is that right?

In this setup, you might need to tell tdarr to send a webhook to this app. Which it doesn't yet support but i could add it?

Pretty much,

• Sonarr/Radarr grabs & imports file
• Sonarr/Radarr notifies PPG via web hook
• At the same time, Tdarr detects the new file and transcodes it, replacing the original
• No thumbnails for new media

So I think the new file is deleting the thumbnails and PPG isn't generating new thumbnails until the full library scan cron schedule.

When Tdarr finishes a transcode I have notify Sonarr/Radarr in the flow so it refreshes after a file change but I guess that info doesn't get to PPG with "On File Import / On File Upgrade" webhook enabled.
