Microsoft postponed the standalone Whiteboard app retirement from
September 14 to **October 16, 2026**, on a new dedicated page
([Retirement of the standalone Microsoft Whiteboard
apps](https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/whiteboard/retirement-standalone-microsoft-whiteboard-apps))
that also states installed apps will then "display a retirement
experience instead of opening".

- Both hero SVGs: date text and aria-labels updated; timing comments
made date-shift-proof
- `site/index.html` caption + alt and `site/compare.html`: new date,
links moved to the new support page
- Card PNGs re-rendered from the updated SVGs with
`tools/render-cards.ps1` (og-image and hero were unaffected and rendered
byte-identical)
- `docs/retirement/README.md` rewritten as a timeline of Microsoft's
three schedule revisions, with citing rules updated — "the app stops
opening on October 16" is now quotable, in Microsoft's own words

Merging deploys the site with the corrected claim.
