Nexus is free amateur radio software. It runs FT8, FT4, RTTY, PSK, SSTV, WSPR and the weak signal modes, plus CW, phone, satellites and APRS, with the logbook, rig control and band map in one window instead of five programs talking to each other over UDP. Windows, macOS, Linux and Raspberry Pi, in five languages.
It is GPL-3.0. Every feature is in every copy. No paid tier, no licence key, no pro version, and there never will be. Sponsorship unlocks nothing, because there is nothing to unlock.
What it costs to run
Hosting. The site, the downloads, the update endpoint, the data files the app fetches, and the CI that builds and tests every release on five platforms.
AI credits. Nexus is written by one operator. It ships five languages, thousands of tests, six platform builds and a same day answer to most issues because I develop with AI assistance, and that has a monthly bill. I would rather say so plainly than call it "tooling" and hope nobody asks. If that is not how you want your money spent, please don't sponsor. I would rather you kept it than felt misled.
If it covers more than that
Most operators running Nexus found it by word of mouth, which means the people it would help most never hear about it. Anything above the running costs goes to changing that: the forums, the clubs, the places operators actually read.
That is a stretch goal, not a bill. If sponsorship only ever covers the two costs above, nothing about the software changes.
What it does not buy
No priority support, no place in the roadmap, no say in what gets built. Bugs get fixed in the order that helps the most people, and a bug report from someone who has never sent a penny outranks a feature request from someone who has.
If your rig does something mine doesn't, tell me about it. That is worth more to this project than money, and always has been.
If you would rather not
Nexus stays free either way. Report a bug, tell me what your radio does that Nexus gets wrong, or send a screenshot of something that reads badly in your language. That keeps it going too.
