Building useful software in the open

Hi! Iโ€™m Luca, an independent software developer based in Italy.

I design and build practical software that turns complex ideas into accessible, maintainable, and reliable products.

My work spans interactive music learning, reproducible public datasets, financial tooling, and production software. I care deeply about clean architecture, transparent development, automated testing, documentation, and software that remains useful over time.

๐Ÿฅ HitTheKit

HitTheKit โ€” learn the beat, play the kit

HitTheKit is an open-source rhythm game and drum-learning platform.

Its goal is to make learning electronic drums engaging, progressive, and accessible โ€” including for people starting from zero.

The project includes:

  • progressive lessons and structured practice paths;
  • playable drum charts with multiple difficulty levels;
  • MIDI electronic-drum support;
  • native CoreMIDI integration for macOS;
  • keyboard input for accessible testing and practice;
  • timing, accuracy, and per-instrument feedback;
  • configurable note-highway visual styles;
  • song-library and local audio support;
  • a signing and notarization pipeline being prepared for future macOS releases;
  • original visual and audio assets.

HitTheKit is developed openly with particular attention to timing accuracy, hardware compatibility, beginner-friendly interaction, testing, and responsible handling of licensed musical content.

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น Italian Cities

Italian Cities is a reproducible open dataset of Italian municipalities, postal localities, postal codes, and geographic coordinates.

The project aims to provide reliable, traceable data that developers can integrate into applications without depending on opaque or outdated datasets.

๐Ÿ“Š Reckonry

Reckonry is an open-source ledger engine for importing exchange data, reconstructing transaction histories, and generating auditable accounting and tax reports.

Its focus is deterministic processing, traceability, and transparent financial calculations.

๐Ÿ’ถ OpenCashFlow

OpenCashFlow is an open-source cash-flow and receipt-management system released for community and non-profit use.

The project explores a transparent and maintainable approach to everyday financial organization.

๐Ÿ”’ Beyond open source

Alongside my open-source work, I also develop GoMyRO, a closed-source product designed for real-world operational use.

Building and maintaining a production product informs the engineering standards I apply to my open-source projects:

  • maintainable architecture;
  • careful data handling;
  • automated testing;
  • dependable releases;
  • security-conscious development;
  • long-term product sustainability.

GoMyRO is mentioned here as part of my professional background, but it is separate from this sponsorship program.

GitHub sponsorships do not provide access to, ownership of, or influence over GoMyRO, and sponsorship funds are intended to support my open-source work.

โค๏ธ What sponsorship supports

Open-source development involves much more than writing new features.

Sponsorship helps me dedicate additional time and resources to:

  • maintaining and improving public projects;
  • reviewing and resolving reported issues;
  • automated testing and release validation;
  • macOS signing and notarization;
  • MIDI hardware compatibility testing;
  • purchasing or maintaining development and test equipment;
  • documentation and contributor onboarding;
  • accessibility and localization;
  • preparing reliable downloadable releases;
  • maintaining open datasets;
  • improving project infrastructure;
  • keeping projects healthy over the long term.

For HitTheKit specifically, sponsorship can help cover electronic-drum testing, macOS distribution costs, release validation, original assets, and the continued development of a free and open drum-learning experience.

๐ŸŒฑ My open-source commitment

My public projects will continue to be developed openly.

Sponsorship does not purchase guaranteed features, private control over a roadmap, or unlimited personal support.

It gives me more time and better resources to:

  • improve software quality;
  • respond to the community;
  • publish dependable releases;
  • document the projects properly;
  • explore useful ideas responsibly;
  • maintain existing work instead of abandoning it.

Every contribution, regardless of size, helps independent open-source development become more sustainable.

Thank you for supporting my work and for helping these projects continue to grow. โค๏ธ
