Hello. This version of ORTHO4XP V2 includes several new features, fixes, and improvements. • Python 3.12 — 15–20% faster mesh calculations • Numpy, Pillow, and SciPy modules natively compiled for arm64 • Isolated venv environment — no module conflicts • 10 simultaneous conversion slots (depending on CPU) • CPU/RAM monitor at launch — detects hardware • Automatic calculation of secure slots (CPU — 2 cores reserved) • RAM limited to 75% max — prevents memory crashes • Configuration automatically written to Ortho4XP.cfg • Color Normalize: sRGB correction IN MEMORY before JPEG → DDS • Reference: sRGB_Neutral_Cube — universal theoretical target • Color Check: detection and correction of R/G/B casts • R/G/B + Luminance + Contrast + Sharpness sliders • rasterio in venv — 100% standalone, no system dependencies • Double-click installation — no terminal required for the user • Native .app/.vbs/.desktop launcher created automatically • Fully standalone folder — movable to external drive
Many files had to be modified so that on the three platforms—Mac, Linux, and Windows—these new automated installation features would run in a secure, isolated environment within a virtual environment: venv.
Since a cross-platform Ortho launcher is generated, there is no longer a need to use the installation procedures from ORTHO4XP version 1.40. These files are deleted, as explained in the readme file.
I had to replace the native DGAL library written in C, which is incompatible within the venv environment. Instead, I installed Rasterio, which wraps DGAL, to make it work.
I created an ORTHO1.40 License folder. In this folder, I placed all the license files from the creators of ORTHO to maintain the link to the first version and clearly demonstrate that ORTHO4XP_V2 is a modernized evolution of the ORTHO4X_1.40 base.
The old licenses for version 1.40 primarily covered the protection of ORTHO XO 1.40, its integrated third-party modules, and their use and distribution.
I have updated a new license that incorporates the framework of the old ones.
This version extends protection to all developers, including myself and all contributors who worked on ORTHO4XP 1.40, as well as future contributors to ORTHO4XP_V2.
As a retiree specializing in international customs and EU regulations, I am deeply committed to respecting established practices and customs.
My native language is French.
It is standard practice that the language used to draft the terms of a contract, license, etc., serves as the reference text, while the translation is secondary. This is to prevent a person with malicious intent from interpreting the text in their favor—an interpretation they might exploit due to a translation that is not faithful to the original text. Any such misinterpretation
In this license, the French text comes first and the translation second. Why?
It’s another safeguard. If the reader of the license first encounters the reference text in French, they will have to scroll to the bottom of the document to read the English version.
They could never claim, “Well, I didn’t see the French text,” if the English version had been placed first.
And why are there two bilingual texts in the license?
Not only for the reasons explained, but also because both languages are recognized as international languages, even though English predominates.
Now that I’ve explained my entire process and its “satellites,” it’s clear that ORTHO3XP_V2 cannot be mixed with ORTHO4XP 1.40 files.
So on GitHub, we should keep Python 1.40 for all tile generation for xPlane versions up to xPlane 12.
But since I’m going to modify some options and remove obsolete ones that are no longer used in xPlane 12, this version 2 will need to be hosted separately on GitHub while linking back to the original creators.
Now I need to figure out how to place my V2 version on GitHub alongside version 1.40, but separate from it given all these changes that are incompatible with 1.40.
Thanks for the feedback. P.S. The Mac version works perfectly. I’m having some issues with Linux; Windows hasn’t been tested yet, but that’s coming soon.
