Steam on ARM64? - ps by shadowed1: Mediatek DRM gpu driver is proprietary and panfrost cannot be used with it. Requires a form of forwarding rendering chroot->chromeos->chroot (?)

I may just be misunderstanding the Arch version but are there some steps I should follow since its not working on my machine? (arm64 arch linux)

This is intended, the installer skips Steam for ARM64 devices. Steam is not supported on ARM64. Valve is going to be adding native Steam support for ARM64 one day. There is a project to to run Steam games on ARM64, but I am not close to supporting that yet.

Mediatek so far has no GPU acceleration in Chard, so games will run terribly if they even run. I am working on improving this and hope to fix that issue. Once GPU acceleration works; I am happy to help work on more advanced stuff for ARM64.

ah ok thanks for the heads up! I was assuming it used some sort of either FEX-emu or box64/box86/wine configuration but frankly I cant get those to work either XD

Still keeping this issue open as I am not giving up on GPU acceleration. With Chard Gentoo, we can use chardonnay to run Sommelier + Xwayland in ChromeOS directly; but this is nowhere near being functional.

I have tried waypipe a few times unsuccessfully. I feel like the best option available is to use virgl and run a virgl render server on ChromeOS itself.

Mediatek is using a DRM driver and it is not a driver we can compile on Gentoo or Arch for Chard. The driver cannot be copied over since there will be an ABI mismatch. I will keep trying things. Hopefully there is something really obvious I have missed.

I did figure out how to get Steam running on ARM64, but not with Chard. With Android VM, we can use Winlator! I was able to get Steam running and played Braid at 30fps on my Mediatek Kompanio 520 with virgl.

Steam client itself is very choppy, but the game itself did run. Half Life 1 crashed on me. I am very new to box64 stuff.
