as a rusty C++ programmer (and everyone who never touched it), it is difficult for me to install / compile the tool as there is no guide of how to do it.
(The binary does not work due to missing libraries or different versions.)
Maybe adding a section in the Readme.md where you describe how to set up the development environment and how to compile the code would be very helpful.
