More helpful error messages when workflow parsing fails

Currently gives a generic "An unexpected error occurred whilst extracting workflow metadata" error message.

It should instead catch and report common errors such as:

• Link to an HTML page given instead of the actual content
• The file attempted to be parsed was not in the expected format
