I have a Newt and a SCT.
With an SCT, mechanical alignment does not mean anything since we need a star (artificial or real) or several lasers (expensive).

But I still use CollimationCircles this way: I remove the secondary mirror to see through the back tube to make sure that the internal tube is aligned with the tube holding the secondary mirror. We can adjust the little screws on the side to push / pull the corrector glass.

Then I put back the secondary mirror and continue normally, then use a star.

So having some analysis on top of that is awesome.
