why are we forced to use email as username? can we have alternatives?

hi,

as it says why are we forced to use an email as username? historical reasons? openwisp compability?

anyway its very unhandy. i use a fake email anyways, but forget which one it was. in most applications u can ether use a defined username or an email to login with your pw. this enhancement would be nice in the future!

Hi!

Pocketbase (the underlying database/webserver software) is the reason. It is more meant to be used online and therefore seems to prefer emails.
It might be possible to switch it to non-email usernames, but I haven't really looked into it.
It is also on my "frustration list" but not very high priority wise for me, since my password manager fills in the details for me.
