Thanks for reporting this and for including the screenshots. I reviewed the two menu-bar states carefully.

From the screenshots, this looks like a menu-bar placement issue, rather than the collapse action itself failing:

• The StatusPerch chevron is at the far left.
• All of the application icons shown in the screenshots are to the right of the chevron.
• StatusPerch only collects items placed to the left of its slim divider. In the current arrangement, that collection area appears to be empty, so clicking the chevron changes its direction but leaves the other icons visible.

The chevron does not need to be the leftmost item. The intended left-to-right order is:

items to hide → slim divider → chevron → clock and always-visible controls

Here is the complete setup flow:

Please try these steps:

1. Click the chevron until StatusPerch is expanded. In the expanded state, the chevron points left.
2. Locate the slim StatusPerch divider.
3. Hold the Command (⌘) key while dragging menu-bar items.
4. Move the low-frequency icons you want to hide to the left of the divider.
5. Keep the chevron immediately to the right of the divider.
6. Keep the clock, Wi-Fi, battery, and other frequently used controls to the right of the chevron.
7. Release Command, then click the chevron once. The collected icons should leave the visible area and the chevron should point right.

A few additional notes:

• StatusPerch uses macOS's native Command-drag ordering. Some Apple system items and some third-party menu-bar apps do not allow themselves to be moved.
• If Bartender, Ice, Hidden Bar, Dozer, or another menu-bar organizer is running at the same time, please quit it temporarily. Multiple organizers can interfere with each other's spacing behavior.
• On a Mac with a display notch, keep the divider and chevron on the same visible side of the menu bar and away from the notch while testing.
• Screen Recording and Accessibility permissions are not required for this workflow.

If it still does not work after arranging the items in that order, please reply with:

1. One screenshot taken while StatusPerch is expanded, showing both the slim divider and chevron.
2. Whether another menu-bar organizer is installed or running.
3. Whether the Mac is using its built-in display, an external display, or both.
4. The local diagnostic log from ~/Library/Logs/MenuOrganizer/diagnostic.log after reviewing it for any personal path information.

I have also updated the project README and website with the clearer setup animation. I will keep this issue open until you confirm whether the corrected ordering resolves it.

It worked! The issue was that I had too many icons in my status bar, so I couldn't see this icon. After I removed some icons and moved the remaining ones to the right positions, it looks great now!
