One of the biggest annoyances of the current layout is that in big, real-world documents, it's impossible to quickly find the "action" heading you're looking for. Since the bulk of time is spent in this section, a visual "outline" of some sort for quick navigation is needed.
This is roughly analogous to writing a long document in Word without the outline sidebar enabled. You can do it, but you're constantly having to type a search string as opposed to clicking the section you're thinking of.
