Here's what we found: the "No models available" error is happening because our backend is silently failing to build your model list rather than showing you the real error (something we're fixing on our end regardless of the cause below). Digging into why it's failing, we found that one of our upstream model providers recently tightened enforcement of a security/compliance policy tied to sanctions restrictions. We're not 100% certain yet that this is what's affecting your account specifically — it could also be an infrastructure issue on our side that just happens to line up in timing — but the pattern we're seeing is consistent with it.

Worth noting: the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) doesn't maintain a single static list of prohibited countries — sanctions programs vary and change over time, and enforcement by our upstream provider may be broader or narrower than any list we could give you. So rather than us guessing at a list, it'd help more to confirm directly:

• Are you connecting through a VPN, proxy, or corporate network, and if so, do you know what country/region it routes through?
• Is your ISP or network provider based outside the country you're physically in?

If neither applies, that's genuinely useful too — it tells us this is on our end and points us at the right fix instead.

Given this, it seems highly likely that this is not a specific regional issue, but a systemic failure on your backend/infrastructure side.

The error you're describing sounds like it might be an OpenRouter credential provisioning error, which could be different from the "No models available" dialog in the original report (screenshot above), but I'm not sure yet. Could you confirm:

1. Are you seeing that exact "No models available" popup, or a different error message/screenshot?
2. If it's the same issue: your OS, your account email, and your log files (paths above) would help us take a look.

Thanks again for your patience and for pushing us to get to the actual root cause rather than settling for a guess — the logs you shared were exactly what we needed, and I want to close the loop honestly with you.

Two separate things were going on:

1. The "No models available" popup was hiding the real error. On your version, when our backend couldn't build your model list, it was silently returning an empty list instead of telling you why. That's a genuine gap on our side, and we have a fix landing in the next release that surfaces the real, specific reason (auth, provider, region, rate-limit, etc.) instead of a blank "No models available." So going forward you'll at least see an actionable message rather than an empty dropdown.

2. The underlying reason your models won't load, unfortunately, is the harder one. Digging into your logs, every cloud LLM request from your account is being rejected upstream with Access denied by security policy — not by Pieces, but by our upstream model provider, which passes that response straight through to us. As I mentioned in my earlier comment, this provider recently tightened enforcement of restrictions tied to sanctions/regional compliance. After reviewing the traffic tied to your account specifically, we've confirmed it's originating from a region that this provider now blocks — and it's enforced on their side, at the network/request level, before the request ever reaches a model.

I want to be straight with you rather than leave you guessing: this isn't something we can toggle off or work around on our end. We're genuinely sorry to say that we're no longer able to deliver Pieces Cloud model traffic from your region, and there isn't a configuration change on our side that restores it. That's not a decision we made or wanted, and I understand how frustrating it is — especially after you took the time to rule out VPNs and help us investigate.

The one thing we can still do is make sure you don't lose anything: if you'd like, I'm happy to hop on a call and help you extract your memories/data out of Pieces so it's preserved and portable. Just let me know and we'll find a time.
