Pumice:

In the 'Decay Story' screen, the third object sample is shown as 'pumice' with a consistent appearance throughout so students can track one recognizable object the entire time. However, in geological reality, pumice would not look or remain the same over billions of years. Pumice is volcanic glass, which is thermodynamically unstable. Over time—typically between 1 million and a few tens of millions of years, depending on temperature and water content—it naturally devitrifies. It reorganizes internally into crystalline minerals and loses its original glassy, porous texture.

Trilobite
Students often assume that anything that was once alive can be dated with ¹⁴C. The trilobite is included specifically to challenge that assumption: at ~340 million years old, all its ¹⁴C has long since decayed beyond detection, making it impossible to date with this method, and showing its limitations.

Sandsoten:
The age shown is not the age the sandstone was deposited. It's the age of mineral grains (zircons) inside the sandstone, which formed in an older parent rock before eroding into sand. This makes it a maximum age: the sandstone itself must be younger than this value.
