Option for "Next event" to show only upcoming events instead of the current one

Imagine it is now 10:28 and I have a meeting at 11:00. Currently, Calendr me the current calendar event in the Menu Bar, in this case that's "Mail", as you can see in the screenshot. However I would like Calendr to show me the next upcoming meeting instead, the one at 11:00.

I've tried some settings but this doesn't seem possible at the moment. Could this be an idea for a new option?

That doesn't even need an option. It makes total sense. Perhaps we could show the next event if it's in the next 30min.

I wouldn't show only the upcoming event, as you said, because if you are a few minutes late for the meeting, you would think it never happened.

Thanks for the reply. It’s something worth thinking about. I think the reason this specific example case happens because there is no meeting between the current item’s end time (10:30) and the next meeting’s start time (11:00). The upcoming 11:00 meeting does appear at 10:31 and on, of course.

I haven’t encountered any issues during times where I have back to back meetings. Only when my calendar has free gaps in it.

You have issues when there are free gaps? I'm not sure I follow.
I thought it was the opposite, like, if you have back to back meetings, you can't see the upcoming one until the current one ends.
But if you have a gap between them it will show the next meeting in that gap, because the previous meeting ended.

I have v1.17.2 ready to go that always shows the current meeting for the first 10 min, no matter what, so you don't think the meeting never happened, but after that, if there's an upcoming meeting in a 30 min window it will replace the menu bar with that meeting, because that's way more important than showing how much time is left to end the current one.

I'm testing it today and if I don't find any issues I will release it to the public.

btw, if you finish a meeting earlier, you can always click "Skip" on the details popup or by right-clicking the menu bar, so it will show the next meeting right away.
