The checking routines in import_check_functions.R have a lot of hard-wiring in them. They are based on the checks that have been put in place for the OSPAR and HELCOM assessments and are robust to the inclusion of new chemical determinands. However, they will likely fail if new auxiliary variables or biological effects determinands are introduced. This needs to be made more robust / flexible.
For biota, some of the checks also depend on the species group (e.g. mammals / birds / fish) and extra flexibility / robustness is required here also.
