Dropping characters over serial to Mac?

I am temporarily connecting my IMSAI replica to my Mac over RS232 serial to USB. I am waiting for a Raspberry Pi 3B board to arrive for PiGFX (I didn't realize the 4 lacks USB support for keyboards), so this isn't a longterm issue. However...

Has anyone run into an issue of dropping characters over the TTY port using RS232 to a modern Mac using a USB serial device? I'm asking because I'm only about an hour in and want figure out of this is a common problem with modern Macs since serial support over USB isn't fantastic, potentially my USB-Serial device, or something else. The data out of the IMSAI to a PiGFX looked great, but without a keyboard on it it's tough to tell if the problem is on the mac side of the IMSAI side.

Definitely a Mac thing. Hard to tell if it's drivers or not. The same USB Serial device from Linux drops zero characters.
