==Introducing Orcmid Hi! My name is Dennis Hamilton and my gamer tag has been “orcmid” since I adopted it on CompuServe in 1979. My career in computing began in 1958 before there was anything such as C/C++, Java, Python, Javascript, and any of the latest fashions. There was FORTRAN but not even COBOL and maybe not yet LISP and BASIC. And yes, assembly language was common - the machines were simpler in those day. In all of that 60+ years in computing, I wanted to be a game creator. I still have that urge, although I spend more time as a player of the current cinematic-quality games. I just recently got into the now-refreshed Halo games on Windows 10. I am finally learning to use a game controller, thanks to Amazon Luna. I am also in the process of transcoding the version of original Colossal Cave Adventure published by Don Knuth in his book on Fun & Games. I am keen about how software development and Computer Science are taught. I am always looking for ways to provide a gentler on-ramp for those who are keen to delve into programming and software development for their own purposes. Having guard rails and a safety net, even training wheels, strike me as very useful in supporting people's taking a risk on such unfamiliar territory. nfoTools was created as an on-ramp providing reusable materials, experiences, and software. A theme is around "confirmable experience" and how they are delivered and recognized. Computer Science has been good to me. I'm paying it forward here and on other GitHub projects. |
