Hi all! Today I’m announcing that my OpenSubsonic client, Radiccio for Mac, now also has a built-in OpenSubsonic server.
I’m looking forward to continuing to work with the OpenSubsonic community. Radiccio Server has some custom protocol extensions that enable Radiccio-specific features. I have fully documented all of them on my web site. If the community is interested, I am happy to submit any of them to become part of the specification.
I wanted to avoid flooding the PR queue with too many proposals at once, so I thought we could use this thread to discuss which, if any, of these extensions people might be most interested in.
To start, here are two that I personally think would be most interesting:
Bonjour (DNS-SD) discoverability
Anonymous authentication
These two work together to provide an experience much like iTunes used to have with DAAP (although Radiccio is not compatible with DAAP, only “inspired by” it). In other words, clients on the LAN can auto-discover a server and connect to it instantly (if configured).
