Disciplines should support defining input/output to be architecture parts. This way, the MDAO formulation can easily be made more flexible in terms of which system architecture variations it can analyze, making it easier to use an MDAO formulation as part of a system architecture optimization loop.
Additionally, reusability is increased because only changes at the part level need to be considered (anything "inside" the part can be changed without needing to update the MDAO formulation).
