Will the proxy still work if I deploy services, volumes or networks using a docker compose file?

That is the idea behind swarmgate, yes.

Swarmgate identifies whether something is "owned" by it using labels where possible and in some cases where its not possible (e.g. volumes) it uses prefixes. You can find the logic in https://github.com/neuroforgede/swarmgate/blob/main/swarmgate/routes.ts if you seach for the term "Owned(".

For networks it is also common to have a common ingress network, e.g. "traefik-public". You can allowlist this even if it is not owned by swarmgate.
