Can't mark package automatically installed

I've built Synaptic from a16dbb2 and noticed that marking packages as automatically installed does nothing. Looks like this feature broke at some point, it was working in Synaptic as shipped in Ubuntu 24.04.

Interestingly, marking it as manually installed still works correctly 🤔

Interesting indeed - I wonder if this might be related to apt - what version of apt did you use and on what distro?

Apt 3.2.0 as shipped by Ubuntu 26.04.
apt-mark auto from the terminal doesn't have any issues, as expected.
