hmmer 3.4 is available, supporting ARM64

Hi Jianshu,

Thanks for pointing this out, this would be a huge and useful change for us as well. Updating is somewhat non-trivial since I had to fork HMMER to fix some small elements in their makefiles to properly build libhmmer. I'm in the middle of finalizing my thesis so I don't have a ton of free time right now. I can get to this in a month or so at the soonest, but I definitely intend to add it and will update the issue when I do.

Good luck with your thesis, my testing on ARM platform (I pulled v3.4 locally) showed that everything works perfectly since the key wrapper function did not change, just the SIMD supported underlying changed without affecting this wrapper. I am definitely happy to wait for the new release!

is there a possibility to allow send & sync trait for the hmm FFI? like the minimap2-rs? Since in a parallel/concurrant settings, each hmm can be shared among threads.

Hi Jianshu,

This library is more in line with minimap2-sys than minimap2-rs. Internally we do have some more idiomatic rust bindings to the underlying C API. I will add releasing these wrappers to my todo list. These make executing hmmscan and hmmsearch from within rust much easier, but the current state of the code requires some cleanup that I can't immediately devote time to. When I get around to the arm64 update I'll also make a libhmmer-rs crate and ping you.
