Just tried it with my WH-CH720N and got these results:

Note: Running the client on linux seems to make the connection unstable, I got a few disconnects followed by reconnects.

Thx for the report!
FYI the metadata writing is an effect of your OS's AVRCP stack - you can try to play a track on your PC and w/o using any 3rd party apps there and you should see the title, etc on the mobile app w/o modifications as well

Why am I not able to use it on WH-1000XM4 but it is usable on WH-CH720N? Is it something I can fix?
I would love to use this fork since it has more functions than the original, thanks a lot in advance!

@ItsIsmailZ WH-CH720N (and XM5 et al) uses a new UUID while the XM4s (and olders ones) uses another UUID for RFCOMM with - unfortunately - quite a lot of command packet differences.

The original fortuantely does work! And there's this PR that added many XM4 specific functions to it that you can build and try it out yourself:

@ItsIsmailZ PR is the acronym for "Pull Requests", it's Github's way of handling code contributions from non-project maintainers. Building that fork on Windows is no different from building this one. See https://github.com/mos9527/SonyHeadphonesClient?tab=readme-ov-file#building for more info.

Do note that it's possible that the changes of the XM4 fork would go into Plutoberth's original. Though unfortunately that PR haven't seen much activity since Januray. In another word - you may wait a bit until that's eventually merged and a offical binary is released, or build the app itself if you'd like to use it now.

Btw, for more questions about the build process or the XM4s - please start new Issue threads with appropriate titles. It would be easier for others to find plus it's out of scope of this issue itself. Thanks in advance!

Update for the rewrite branch:

• Battery Life: works
• EQ:
  • Presets Rock/Pop/Jazz/Dance/EDM/R&B/Acoustic are not supported, but listed in the dropdown.
  • The other presets work.
• Multipoint Control:
  • Checkbox to enable/disable works,
  • Connected / Paired devices lists work
  • Pairing mode does get enabled.
  • SOURCE_SWITCH_PROTOCOL and PAIRING_DEVICE_MANAGEMENT_CLASSIC_BT are marked as supported
• Voice Guidance
  • Toggle works
  • There is no volume setting, parity with the official app
