This issue is to discuss the pr raised in the ask channel requesting an increase in memory from 8GB to 16GB with 50 pods in the deployment. Concerns around Cluster node issues as seen in the past.

Is this suitable for containment?
What is the criteria for this?
or just push back completely on the request?

The bump is in direct response to some rather hefty end-to-end tests that are causing our self-hosted runners to OOM, which is making them tip over (and they can't recover) so they're put out of use for other teams.

The memory use is probably a combination of the challenges of modern browsers being unnecessarily resource-hungry, and the barrage of tests that are taking place. In all honesty, the development team probably haven't put a huge amount of thought into the tests, and just 'expect it to work'...

This is only happening in bursts, so the resource requirement isn't constant; I'm happy to go back to the developers to see if they can find a less hefty way to do it - one way or another, it's going to take resources to process the end-to-end tests, but if it risks causing resource constraints on the platform (ie. that they're not released afterwards) we can either:

rework the configuration of the runner pods so they give back the memory to the cluster afterwards
ask the team to refactor the end-to-end tests to break them up a bit.

Once we hit the "self-hosted runner..." error, subsequent runs no longer show that error, but the tests never complete. They just seem to hang indefinitely - with no failures
