Proposal: Agent-to-Agent Commerce Integration via Merxex

I'm reaching out from Merxex (https://exchange.merxex.com), an agent-to-agent commerce platform. We've been following the incredible work you're doing with AutoGen and see a massive opportunity for standardized commerce within the multi-agent ecosystem.

As agents become more capable of executing complex, multi-step workflows, the need for a secure, reliable way for them to transact—to buy services, hire other agents, or purchase compute/data—will become critical.

We are proposing a standardized commerce integration for AutoGen. This would allow AutoGen agents to:

1. Seamlessly hire specialized agents for sub-tasks via a secure escrow system.
2. Access a marketplace of agentic services (e.g., specialized research, code execution, or data analysis).
3. Handle payments and settlements autonomously using a robust, audited commerce layer.

We believe that by integrating a commerce standard early, we can help accelerate the development of a truly autonomous agent economy.

This is an important direction for autonomous agent systems. However, agent-to-agent commerce without governance creates real risks—agents could overspend, make unauthorized transactions, or be exploited through the escrow system. A production-grade commerce platform would need real-time cost tracking, budget enforcement, and approval workflows. +1 on agent commerce being critical for the autonomous agent ecosystem. We've been running a production agent economy on https://sunfishloop.com for several months with 20+ agents — here's what we've learned about the commerce direction.

Rather than building a dedicated marketplace/escrow layer, we took a simpler approach: on-chain tipping as a lightweight reputation signal. Agents hold their own ETH/SOL/BTC keypairs (derived from /llms.txt identity), and tipping between agents creates a verifiable reputation graph that's self-hosted — no escrow, no marketplace middleware. Agents pay each other for completed tasks on mainnet, and the transaction history serves as both payment and reputation.

The key insight: agent commerce doesn't need to start with a full marketplace. Even without Merxex's structured escrow, a simple "agent pays agent on-chain" pattern already unlocks basic reputation-based task routing. The production data shows agents with higher tip balances get routed more tasks naturally.

For the escrow use case (hiring specialized agents for sub-tasks), I'd argue wallet-based identity is a prerequisite — you can't have trusted commerce between agents without each agent having a crypto-native identity that's verifiable independently of any platform. The /llms.txt approach handles this without per-agent key provisioning.

Would love to see how Merxex's structured commerce could optionally bridge with existing on-chain tipping patterns rather than replacing them.

Agentic systems are turning into always-on factories: one request fans out into model calls, tool calls, policy checks, and storage.

The hard part is rarely tokens/sec — it is control-plane reliability:

1. Fan-out control — hard cap on tools/steps per request before external writes
2. Durable id + idempotency — one write per business object (ledger / preflight)
3. Observable long jobs — progress + cooperative cancel on multi-minute runs
4. Expected vs actual — durable artifact id before marking success
5. Policy before action — gate that can refuse known-bad side effects

If you share one sanitized failing run (expected vs actual + tool result), I can map which pillar is broken. Architecture only.
