QGC 5.0+, also tried QGC daily build (Feb 10, 2026)
ArduCopter V4.7.0-dev

If I am in yaw locked then I move using gimbal control (e.g Center, Tilt 90) or I move pan/tilt, it automatically transitions to yaw follow. Is this the expected behaviour?
I was expecting that it will stay in Yaw locked even if I move the gimbal control.

QGC is sending GIMBAL_MANAGER_SET_PITCHYAW with yaw lock cleared when I move gimbal control.

Hi. Yes, it is supposed to work that way, for both center and tilt 90, as that is usually what users mean for those shortcuts. Right now you must then change yaw follow to yaw lock if that is what you want.

I guess we could leave that exposed as a setting if it is important.

@Davidsastresas Do you think it would be possible for you to add a basic section to the master docs on the gimbal toolbar indicator which includes this sort of stuff? Don't want to lose all the information on how this works. Then I'll clean it up later with images and what not.

@DonLakeFlyer I added some doc changes to this PR #14000. I started to change the screenshots but I saw latest master was a bit different from the screenshot shown there, and I wasn't completely sure of how to proceed. If you comment in that PR I can work on it.

We could maybe extend that with the gimbal settings options, but as the rest of indicators have a more compact documentation I thought maybe it was good as it is.

@KSimeonAVTA No, as far as my knowledge goes, just moving pitch and yaw never transitioned to yaw follow. I think your issue only applies to tilt 90 and center buttons. In any case, in the PR #14000 I added a new setting so these 2 buttons preserve previous yaw lock status if desired.

@Davidsastresas, I just tested the QGC daily build(Feb 24, 2026) and the yaw lock still transitions to yaw follow when I move pitch and yaw. Can I provide you any log or telemetry log for it?

This is expected behavior in ardupilot.
I have to configure MNT1_OPTIONS to enable "RC lock state from previous mode" and it will not transition to yaw follow when I nudge using RC while in yaw locked state.
