preview screen tearing

Steps to Reproduce

This has been an issue for a very long time, for me, on every machine without a GPU, when relocating monitors, the icon, in the gui preview doesnt delete the graphic from the previous location.
I have a picture. It gets confusing, its hard to see where the screen is. closing, and re-opening the app fixes it.
so something about the drag and drop function doesn't clear the previous positions.

not really life changing either way, but it has done this for as long as I can remember using mate.

Expected Behavior

graphic for previous position disappears when new position is selected.

Actual Behavior

Both old and new position are shown

@elovejoy-nyle if I disable compositing on my side I don't get full ghosting like you but I do see some tearing as I drag the monitor rectangle. I submitted a patch that just redraws the thing instead of having to move the whole widget around.

Anyway, I'd love it if you're able to give it a try and let me know if this fixes the issue for you: #809

I ran this, post patch. same behaviour,
turned on compositing, same thing.

build fine, merged fine.

From your bash history it seems you never actually applied the patch!

Try this for building from git:

$ sudo apt build-dep mate-control-center
$ git clone https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-control-center.git
$ cd mate-control-center
$ git fetch origin pull/809/head:pr-809
$ git checkout pr-809
$ ./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr
$ make -j"$(nproc)"
$ sudo make install

Try this for installing from deb:

$ sudo apt build-dep mate-control-center
$ apt source mate-control-center
$ cd mate-control-center-*/
$ wget https://github.com/mate-desktop/mate-control-center/pull/809.patch
$ patch -p1 < 809.patch
$ dpkg-buildpackage -us -uc -b
$ cd ..
$ sudo apt install ./mate-control-center_*.deb
