Possible to use VLC for video playback?

Hello Marijn,
Is it possible to configure RPS to use some other video player like VLC?

Right now I see that RPS invokes Windows Media Player (or sometimes movies) via Internet Explorer. The resulting video playback is very choppy / jerky. Here is what I have tried so far

• Checking the "use GPU rendering for IE" in RPS' settings
• Unchecked "use video smoothing" in WMP's options
• Tried editing the monitor.js file as you suggested in issue Video playback very slow (choppy) #30

None of these things helped.

I really love your software. Works perfectly fine with my photos. I hope it can play my videos also nicely. Please let me know if you want me to test something. Thanks!

PS:

• In VLC, all my videos play very smoothly.
• All my content (photos and videos) are kept on a networked machine which I call server
• Network connection between this machine and my server is 10Gbps Fiber channel, so there is no network bottleneck
• I really did not understand what needs to be done to monitor.js so that VLC is executed by RPS. but I tried changing this line to this:

Hello Rajdude,

I am facing the same issue with high quality gopro videos recorded in 4k.
I tried everything you have mention but none of them have any effect.

My computer is quite powerful (amd 3700x + nvidia 3080) and I read the files from a SSD.
Were you able to find any solution?

Hello Rajdude.
I am having the same problem that I have seen mentioned since 2015. It is frustrating to have such a great screensaver that does not effectively play videos. Surely it is not that hard to use VLC.
BTW what version of RPS are you using?
