1. Proprietary Material

All contents of this repository, including but not limited to the cartographic schemas, stylesheets (JSON/vector tile styles), vector layer definitions, configurations, code, graphics, and documentation (collectively, the "Materials"), are the exclusive intellectual property of Toursprung GmbH ("Maptoolkit").

2. No Open-Source License Granted

This repository is made public for informational, review, and transparency purposes. It is not licensed under any open-source license (such as MIT, Apache, or GPL). Publication on GitHub does not itself grant any rights beyond those set out below.

3. Permitted Use of Stylesheets

Subject to your continuous compliance with the Terms of Service (https://www.maptoolkit.org/tos, § 11) and this notice, you may:

  • view, download, and copy the stylesheets (style JSON, sprite references, glyph references) in this repository;
  • modify, adapt, customize, or create derivative works of those stylesheets;
  • host and serve those stylesheets — original or modified — from your own infrastructure, for use within your own Application,

provided that, in every case, all tile, glyph, and sprite references in such stylesheets and derivative works are served exclusively from official Maptoolkit endpoints (currently tiles.maptoolkit.org, styles.maptoolkit.org, fonts.maptoolkit.org, and successors we publish). You must not redirect any such reference to a third-party tile provider or to your own or any other independent tile-rendering infrastructure. This license is conditional and terminates automatically, with immediate effect, upon any breach.

If you modify a stylesheet and host, distribute, or publish that modified version, you must retain this notice and the applicable copyright notice, so that the modified stylesheet remains bound to the tile-server condition above for any further recipient.

4. Reserved Prohibitions

Except as expressly permitted in Section 3, and without the prior written permission of Toursprung GmbH, you may not:

  • copy, redistribute, publish, translate, mirror, or sublicense the Materials outside of this repository or your own Application;
  • use the cartographic schemas, vector layer definitions, or stylesheets to serve, render, or otherwise host tile, glyph, or sprite data from your own infrastructure or any third-party service, or to build a competing tile or map-rendering service (unauthorized self-hosting of tile infrastructure);
  • port, adapt, retarget, or otherwise rebuild these stylesheets to consume tile, glyph, or sprite data from any source other than the official Maptoolkit endpoints, including other commercial tile providers (e.g. Mapbox, MapTiler, Stadia) or self-hosted OSM-based tile servers;
  • replicate, reimplement, reverse-engineer, or otherwise reconstruct the cartographic schema, vector layer definitions, tile schema, or stylesheet logic — in whole or in substantial part — in any other style, schema, dataset, or product;
  • commercialize or otherwise exploit the Materials independently of the Service (e.g. by sublicensing the styles as a standalone product).

5. Usage of the Free Service

The provision of the free map/tile service by Maptoolkit does not grant, imply, or transfer any intellectual property rights, licenses, or ownership of the underlying styles, schemas, or assets to the user beyond the limited license in Section 3. Usage of the service endpoints is governed by the Terms of Service of Maptoolkit (https://www.maptoolkit.org/tos).

6. Disclaimer of Warranty

THE MATERIALS ARE PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE MATERIALS OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE MATERIALS.
