The new Soils Description Manual draft proposes a slightly simpler rating system for NaF test results (None/Slight/Moderate/Strong), visible at https://manaakiwhenua.github.io/NZ_soildesc_2024/hr_06_chemical_properties.html#tbl-ft-naf and at https://manaakiwhenua.github.io/nzsc_v4/Diagnostics.html#sec-diag-naf
Some wording in the rest of the NZSC needs to change to match:
- In the Diagnostics:
- for Allophanic Soil Material, criteria 1(a)(iv) would simplify from 'strong or very strong' to 'strong'
- for Oxidic horizon, criteria 4 would simplify from 'Non-reactive or very weakly reactive' to 'Non-reactive or weakly'
- for Podzolic-B horizon, criteria 2b would simplify from 'strong or very strong' to 'strong'
- In the definitions of BML, BFLA, BFL, and EML, 'strong or very strong' would simplify to 'strong'
- In the definitions of BFMP, BFPA, BFP, BOMP, and BOP 'non-reactive, weak or very weak' would simplify to 'non-reactive or weak'
- Mentions of 'moderate' reaction would remain unaltered.
Does that cause any problems?
