Metadata Module - Future Enhancements

Scope

  • hardening and refinement of schema/metadata runtime behavior
  • deterministic reliability improvements for consistency and export/integration flows
  • stronger benchmark-backed guardrails for metadata hot paths

Design Constraints

  • metadata contracts remain backward compatible within major release line.
  • schema and consistency behavior remains explicit and deterministic.
  • lineage/export behavior remains bounded and observable.
  • degraded integration paths remain explicit and non-silent.

Required Interfaces

Interface Requirement
schema interfaces deterministic discovery and metadata access semantics
consistency interfaces explicit constraint and checker outcome semantics
lineage/export interfaces bounded traversal and deterministic export behavior
distributed catalog interfaces stable metadata integration contracts

Implementation Notes

  • tighten parity between schema discovery and consistency validation outcomes.
  • standardize diagnostics for schema, export, and distributed catalog incidents.
  • Phase 2/3 hardening delivered: ConsistencyIssue diagnostics verified (MCH-01..MCH-06), ColumnRef contracts verified (MCH-07..MCH-08).
  • Phase A delivered: schema churn stress (MCH-S01..S08), SchemaVersionManager lock-contract (MCH-L01..L04).
  • Phase B delivered: consistency edge cases (MCH-C01..C08), lineage traversal (MCH-LN01..LN04), export failure paths (MCH-EX01..EX04).
  • Phase C delivered: distributed catalog diagnostics via RecordingChangeListener (MCH-DC01..DC04), RBAC diagnostics (MCH-SEC01..SEC04).
  • Phase D delivered: benchmark broadened to consistency/lineage hot paths with GATE-MCL-01..04.
  • expand deep concurrent-access stress coverage beyond focused unit tests (Q2 2027).
  • add operator runbook for metadata incident triage (Q2 2027).

Test Strategy

  • unit and integration suites for schema, consistency, and export behaviors.
  • regressions for malformed metadata, consistency conflict, and export failures.
  • deterministic stress runs for metadata cache and mutation-heavy workflows.
  • release-profile benchmark runs for mapped metadata targets.

Performance Targets

  • metadata access and cache operations remain inside regression budgets.
  • metadata hot paths remain stable at p95/p99 envelopes.
  • mapped benchmark manifests reach no-missing-case status for release gating.

Security / Reliability

  • maintain strict validation and constraint enforcement before metadata commit paths.
  • preserve explicit failure signaling for export/integration issues.
  • enforce bounded behavior under malformed or partial metadata state.
  • keep diagnostics actionable for production metadata incidents.
